Reading Goal Assessment

The School of the Future Has Opened in Finland

WALT know what different words mean
Success Criteria:
When I am reading and I come across a word I do not know I will:
  1. Use what is written around the word to help find out its meaning.
  2. Look for smaller words within the word, that I know the meaning of.
  3. Look at prefixes and suffixes and use my knowledge of them to help work out the meaning.
  4. Look up the word in a dictionary.

dour
Experts from VERSTAS Architects made sure they moved well away from the typical dour design for a public school which we all can't stand:
Dour means: dull or Boring.
Example
This house is so dour.
concept
Most of the children's lessons are built around the concept of team projects.
Concept means: an idea or intention.
Example
The concept was to win the game.
restrictions
The designers believe that any fence or barrier will just encourage the children to rebel against restrictions; therefore, the whole place is open.
Restrictions means: the limitation or control of someone or something.
Example
The restrictions of the road is the lines
unobtrusive
There are video cameras, but the security measures in general are unobtrusive.
Unobtrusive means: they/it does not draw attention to itself.
Example
The glass coffe table is very unobtrusive

psychological
In schools like this which have departed from the traditional educational model, children's educational progress is much higher, whilst the amount of psychological problems often experienced by school children is reduced.
Psychological means: to belong or be connected as a part, possession, or attribute.
Example- can´t find one
